Frostbite is the second novel in The Vampire Academy Series. Rose Hathaway and Lissa Dragomir are back in a new adventure!
I find that all of Richelle Mead’s novels have an easy flow to them and simplistic conflict that adds to the overall series. It slowly builds up in each novel as well as the series as a whole!
“Rose Hathaway got serious guy trouble. Her gorgeous tutor Dimitri has his eyes on someone else, her friend Mason has a huge crush on her and she keeps getting stuck in her best friend Lissa’s head while she’s making out with her boyfriend, Christian.
Then a massive Strigoi attack puts St. Vladmir’s on high alert, and the Academy crawls with Guardians – including the legendary Janine Hathaway… Rose’s formidable, long-absent mother. The Strigoi are closing in, and the Academy’s not taking any risks. This year, St. Vlad;s holiday ski trip is mandatory.
But the glittering winter landscape and the posh Idaho resort only provide the illusion of safety. When three students run away to strike back and the deadly Strigoi, Rose must join forces with Christian to rescue them. Only this time, Rose – and her heart – are in more danger than she ever could have imagined.”
This novel revolves around Strigoi who are learning to attack in bigger groups which is unusual behaviour for them. Rose witnesses the aftermath of the Strigoi attack and got a glimpse into the world she was training so hard to join. Due to the attacks, the Moroi elite want to protect the royalty and the future Guardians so they secure a royal resort up on the slopes. Drama, love and heartache fill this novel and I recommend it to everyone!
I think Rose is one of my favourite characters! Probably because when I first read this series I was a 16/17 year old girl struggling to find my place in the world. But she is so relatable!
Her sarcasm, her ambition and her fears are all so common in young adults these days which is why she comes off the page so easily. Also, her ability to use humour to get through all kinds of situations. She is super real and always interesting.
The last Dragomir princess is making waves in the Moroi community by dating Christian Ozera openly. Christian is from a family that chose to become Strigoi which is the ultimate betrayal because you loose all sense of yourself. Strigoi are monsters in the eyes of the Moroi and everyone is terrified that Christian will choose the same way as his parents.
Lissa is also a Spirit user and there are not many in the world. It is a new element that is no being studied in order for Lissa to understand her abilities.
Introducing the infamous Adrian Ivashkov. He is a few years older than Rose, he is rich and is known for alcohol consumption and getting around with the ladies. My first reaction to Adrian was hatred because no one can get in between Rose and Dimitri, NO ONE! But now that I have read it again and I am a bit older he is quite entertaining!
He is lost, and I understand that he is just trying to find his place in this world.
I won’t spoil this part of the novel for anyone who hasn’t read it but oh boy! I find this novel is a wake up call for Rose. She is getting closer to becoming a full fledge Guardian and she is finally get a real life experience of what she will be doing.
I recommend this book and the entire series!
