I am in love with this series. Sarah J Maas has created a universe filled with some many things! Let’s dive in!
“In a world without magic, an assassin is summoned to the castle. She comes not to kill the vicious king who rules from his throne of glass but to win her freedom. If she defeats twenty three killers, thieves and warriors in a competition, she will be released from prison to serve as the King’s Champion. Her name is Celaena Sardothien.
The Crown Prince will provoke her. The Captain of the Guard will protect her. And a princess from a faraway land will befriend her. When her competitors start dying, one by one, Celaena’s fight for freedom becomes a fight for survival – and a desperate quest to root out the evil before it destroys her world.”
First off, badass female assassin. Second, feared around the world. Third, beautiful, has a heart, and a mysterious past. This novel is definitely one of my new favourites because it is so intricate.
I am very curious to see where this story goes in the other books because this book merely brushes the surface of some large elements.
This novel is a very good start to the series and I am hooked!
I am all for a love triangles and this one is particularly special. For me, I did not have a preference or was routing for one boy over the other. (This could change in the coming books but for now, this is where I am at.)
Choal is the Caption of Guard, he works for the Crown prince and is the one that watches over Celaena. They have an interesting relationship being that Choal leads the Kingdom that is destroying the world Celaena loves. Celaena is an assassin and kills for coins which is the farthest thing from Choal’s mind, how could some one do that?
I am curious to see where their relationship goes!
Dorian is the Crown Prince and has the future of the Kingdom on his shoulders. He understands his role but he doesn’t know how to get out from under his father. This storyline will be interesting as the series continues.
I enjoy how we get insight into different characters point of views. The main three point of views are Celaena, Chaol, and Dorian but also get the perspective of Kaltain.
This allows the reader to get more insight into the world that Maas has created.
This Universe is amazing! One of the biggest scenes that piqued my interest is at the very beginning. Celaena is being escorted through the woods and she mentions how magic has been eliminated. Plus, her knowledge of magic could get her killed.
