Winter is the last book of The Lunar Chronicle series and it does not disappoint! Action, suspense, love, fear, and so much more in this epic conclusion.
Can everyone say it with me – I like big books and I cannot lie!
Anyone else have a love for extremely large books, especially when it is the final one in a series because I do!
Let’s jump in!
“Princess Winter is admired by the Lunar people for her grace and kindness, and despite the scars that mark her face, her beauty is said to be even more breathtaking than that of her stepmother, Queen Levana
Winter despises her stepmother, and knows Levana won’t approve of her deelings of her childhood friend – the handsome palace guard, Jacin. But Winter isn’t as weak as Levana believes her to be and she’s been undermining her stepmother’s wishes for years. Together with the cyborg mechanic, Cinder, and her allies, Winter might even have the power to launch a revolution and win a war that’s been raging for far too long.
Can Cinder, Scarlet, Cress and Winter defeat Levana and find their happily ever afters?”
We are introduced to the lovely Princess Winter. Winter is quirky and unusual because she refuses to use her Lunar ability of manipulation. The consequences of this is to slowly go insane.
Winter brings an interesting element to the story because she shows Queen Levana’s ability to be evil. Queen Levana is jealous of Winter because of her natural beauty and charisma. People are drawn to Winter and that is all Queen Levana has wanted her entire life.
Levana was so jealous of Winter that she attacked Winter and scarred her face. Even after these injuries Winter was still deemed beautiful and this boiled Levana’s blood.
However, I wanted to know why Levana didn’t try to get rid of Winter again. I know that the people adored Winter and Winter’s father wouldn’t have allowed it. But Queen Levana was the one that massacred children for being Shells and lying to parents saying their children were killed only to use them for experiments. Levana slaughtered hundreds of people and threw their bodies into the lake.
Queen Levana is evil. Why couldn’t she end Winter’s life?
The Final Battle
There is so much that happens in this battle that I’ll pick out my favourite parts!
Wolf and Scarlet
I honestly feel so bad for Wolf. His mother thought he was dead and only to get him back for a short time pulled at the heart strings. He struggles with being human and fighting against the animal instincts that Levana put into him.
The fact that she did it again and made him even more animalistic was horrible! However, Scarlet’s love and the person she is shows through that fact that she will stand by Wolf no matter what.
Cress and Captain Throne
My favourite couple out of this whole series has to be Cress and Thorne. Throne is a trouble guy who pushes the limits and the law. Cress is an innocent girl who has no life experience except for being trapped in a satellite for her entire life until Cinder comes to rescue her! For more on Cress Click Here.
The idea of Thorne and Cress exploring the world and finally expressing their love for each other makes me blush because they both were so head strong this series, not wanting to put their heart out there.
Cinder and Levana
There are few encounters that Cinder and Levana have and each one of them gets more epic.
First, when Cinder is caught and Levana is about execute her in front of all the elite people of the court I was panicking. This scene takes place about half way through the novel. I was thinking, it cannot end like this!
Then, Cinder goes and jumps off the balcony into the lake! I read this page a few times because I was in disbelief! Cinder’s struggle in the water reminds you that she is in fact a Cyborg, her mechanical body was malfunctioning and she had to fight!
The final scene between Cinder and Levana is huge. I wanted to believe that Levana would step down and let Cinder have the thrown but ever part of this series has depicted Levana as a true evil, how would she step aside?
Well, she doesn’t! I won’t say exactly how for those of you have not read it but goodness I gasped!
How do you feel about Cinder wanting to dissolve the monarchy?
Personally, I think Cinder aka Selene is going to do an incredible job running the people of Lunar. She has fought to be heard her entire life and finally she has the power to do it.
It is a little sad that Cinder and Kai have to part ways to rule their own people but the idea of them keeping in touch and one day finally being together makes me happy!
Also, each character’s storyline comes to a close that leaves the reader feeling happy and content! Marissa Meyer has done an incredible job with this series and I honestly can’t wait to read her other books!
What did you think of the conclusion to the Lunar Chronicle Series?
